Britney Spears Has a Baby Boy

LOS ANGELES - Britney Spears has given birth to a baby boy — her first child and her second with husband Kevin Federline — a magazine reported Wednesday, after a delivery at a Los Angeles-area hospital kept carefully under wraps.

The 23-year-old pop star was reported in good condition. Neither her publicist nor the hospital confirmed the birth, which People magazine reported on its Web site, but family members and the singer's own Web site had chronicled the pregnancy for months.

The baby is the couple's first together; Federline, 27, has two young children from his previous relationship with actress Shar Jackson. The pair married last September in a surprise Studio City ceremony that the tabloids initially refused to believe.

Spears documented the pregnancy in a reality series, "Britney & Kevin: Chaotic," that aired on UPN this summer, and in a candid Web site letter to fans in which she wrote of craving pickles and dreaming of motherhood.

The singer, who has sold more than 50 million albums since "...Baby One More Time" made her a star at 17, has said she plans to take time off to be a mother — though her label is already promoting a remix album due this fall.

Tabloid coverage of the pregnancy ran to the usual extremes, including a widely circulated report — denied by her camp — that the baby would arrive by scheduled Caesarean for astrological reasons.

Spears' mother, Lynne, told the magazine the family was "over the moon." The baby's name had not been announced; British tabloids had spent weeks wagering on everything from Preston to Preston Michael, a nod to the singer's Louisiana roots.
